this very simple test. Graduate students could use
this as a basis for a study.
A Short
Summary of Traditional Spelling Research
Project Spelling : It has
been more than 50 years since a comprehensive
baseline study has been made on student spelling
grades 2-8. This is AVKO's Research
Proposal to NICHD, The U.S. Department of Education
and those Universities who consider themselves to be
leaders in the field of education. AVKO
challenges them to help gather the essential
statistics so that researchers, publishers, school
systems, and yes, classroom teachers, can determine
what is and what isn't caught and what is needed to
be taught as well as what methods work best to teach
spelling.

A Challenge to University
Researchers To adequately
establish the relationship of reading test scores to
spelling, a baseline study must be conducted.
The last such study was done in
1954!
Word
Difficulty Survey Easily replicable.
Mode & Median are 100%! Only the Mean is less
despite the "mathematically obvious" results should
be 50/50 by chance.
